Cache works much better then ASIM and I had the same troubles back in the day. What I did was to get a basic 3.1 install setup. Then I got ASIM installed to access the cd and install the CacheCDFS from the CD and remove all the ASIM stuff. Read the Cd again once you have cache working and create a boot floppy from the installer on the CD. This will make a disk that can access the OS 3.9 cd from a boot. Once the disk is done you can boot from that with the 3.9 CD in you drive and install a CLEAN version of the OS. This will wipe out all the stuff on you hard drive, but it works well. Also make sure your drive is no more then 4GB in size. I had a 2.5GB boot partition. You can make your Work: partition as big as the rest of your drive, but the main system partition can only be 4GB or less.
