I hate to see you give up, too. The video cards will be hard to replace. Is there no vestage of a nearby users group?
Just to recap, did this wierd booting problem persist after the graphics, HD, accel were removed (booting from floppy)?
EDIT Also, you can normally see a bent zip memory pin with a flashlight and a magnifying glass.
