I'd of much prefered to see actual screenshots, as apposed to photos.
Well, screenshots of GNOME 1.4 are still available, for example
here, and KDE.org keeps screenshots of the old KDE2
here.
Hyperion has a bunch of Sin
screenshots.
For UAE, just imagine whatever is on your Amigas and add your preferred XF86 window manager border around it.
