I doubt you have a military grade 040.

A Military spec 68040 costs over 1000USD alone. If it is radiation herdened it can costs around 2000 USD.
 It will have all gold plating, operate from -55 to +125C ambient, have a DESCC drawing number and a CoC. The chip package is not black but grey.

Does you chip have this?

Did Motorola or Atmel make the chip?

Why would anyone put a Mil spec CPU in a commercial computer?

I have worked in the Aerospace/Defence industry for 5 years. I have contacted Atmel who make the Military spec 68000s and PowerPCs for pricing in the past.

The 68000 family fly the majority of commercial and military aircraft in service. Newer commercial and military aircraft are using PowerPC variants, from the 603 to the 7400.
