I am in negotiations for a 1971 VW Karmann Ghia coupe that needs lots of work. If I ever have the money and do get the car, I would like to flip the trans to make it a mid-engine and either build a high performance VW motor, or install a turboed Subaru or Mazda Rotary and wildly customize the rest of the car. Since I live in Big Bear Lake, at about 7,000 ft. above Sea level I don't need A/C. Windshield defogging/defrosting might be a bit of a challenge, but I doubt I would drive it in the Winter anyway.
Might be a fun mountain road ralley style of fun car. It amazes me that there is still an active aircooled VW industry and community. My Son's first car is a 1971 VW Beetle project car we are chopping into a Baja Bug and should be ready to use by next Spring. I am enjoying the nostalgia of working on old VW's again. Goes hand-in-hand with my nostalgic Amiga collection. Guess I am just a retro kind of guy.
Edit: If I had the money for a Vett, it would have to be a 1963 split rear window model.
nothin wrong with that

I used to have a 62 VW Bug (ragtop). Completely restored it going with the "Cal look".. torque thrust kinda rims, lowered, all original. I put a 1641cc engine in there, nothing real radical, just a little bigger than stock. I like Ghias, especially for drag racing
