if you can afford it, buy it.  Dont buy some old, used laptop just because this one is too powerful.  What she may not use it for now (dvd playing, graphics etc) she may want to do later.

Nah, poo on the Apple laptops.  Get a laptop to run Windows on it.  Everything out there is practically for Windows.  More then likely thats all she/her friends/school use is Windows machines.

why does a powerful laptop have to be a desktop?  dont settle for second best.   do you know for a fact that the battery only asks for 30 minutes?  

get what you can afford and do look at the "M" series processors.
