No, it means 8bit modes, if you want to use just 16 colours, saving memory. (well, why would someone need it?)

As a matter of fact some floppy games could be forced to run on RTG screens when promoted for example via ModePro using the Force Planar option, and SysInfo needed the same trick to show properly on RTG screens. At least when using P96.
