Disksalv is OK under 4GB; the only tool for over 4GB is DiskMonTools. But the only real solution is a backup drive, for years I have had at least one backup on a dedicated drive. Maybe DiskMonTools is OK, the only time I tried it it was so slow that I couldn't bear. With my speedy UWSCSI drives I can copy from my backups much faster than recover a busted drive. Just need to keep the backups fresh...
