IDE CD Rom
« on: April 22, 2010, 03:39:09 PM »
After 3 years and finally getting my A4000 mother board back, I reconnected all my hardware only to have the SCSI Hardrive no longer functioning properly.

So i figured i would install an IDE drive back on, and installed a 52x Speed CD Rom, now so far i was able to install WB 3.1 but when i tried to configure the CD icon to Unit 1 and editing with ED, the system just hangs, but if i disconnect the CD Rom, it boots up, and yes the CD Rom is fine.

Now i haven't used a IDE in over 15 years and can't remember how to configure the setting, could someone please give me a simple reminder of how it was done from scratch, Thanks.

Thanks for the reply's, I don't have a copy of IDEFix 97 and i was in the understanding this required registering which apparently is no longer available, also i need my CD Rom so I can Install OS 3.9 which I've been informed doesn't need IDEFix, and yes, the Hardrive is the master, and the CD Rom is slave CD0.

Problem is the A4000 can't access the net until i can access the CD i have all my internet stuff on. so is there a way to access the CD Rom without IDEFix ? and what are the settings ? surly there is a way, people were using CD drives before IDEFix.
