Also, Franko's point is very true - I have a lovely glossy black laptop that is never pretty anymore because the finish attracts and clearly displays all of my various fingerprints. Pretty to look at, not to use.
I feel the same. In the 90s I always wanted black hardware. But the experience of the last years showed that it´s the old beige boxes that have the advantage. But I don´t mind getting more colorful than that. E.g. I liked Apples original iMacs. I also think that the X1000 could use some bright/colorful makeover.
Illuminated keyboards for example are a bit distracting and completely unnecessary, if you have a beige Keyboard and just a little light in the room (think "monitor").
