Yes, the hardware is completely different(PPC vs x86), however, you are 100% wrong about it not playing a single original XBOX title.

All original Xbox titles sold at Game Stop that have a product ID number ending in "BC" are in fact "Backwards Compatible" with the 360. I have at least 5 such games and I know there are MANY more...

WINE is an API compatibility layer, not a CPU emulator. What MOS and AOS use is more of a CPU translator similar to what Apple used in its transition from 68K to PPC and later PPC to x86(Rosetta).
