ADAPCMCFL not reading CF cards on A1200
« on: March 20, 2009, 01:46:08 PM »
I recently bought an  ADAPCMCFL EasyADF kit to hopefully read standard Compact Flash cards so I could transfer data from my PC to Amiga and vice versa however it is not working.  I have followed the installation instructions and CF0 is mounted however when I try to access CF0: it says no disk is inserted.  The green light shows on the CF reader.  I have tried this with and without my trapdoor accelerator card - neither seems to work.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Or does anyone have any ideas how to get it working?  The PCMCIA CF reader works on my PC laptop so I think the hardware side is functional.

Thanks
Allan

I have tried a few different CF cards and an SD card, none of which seem to work :-(

More likely your CF Card is not compatible.

Do you know where I can get such a tool?

I have been having this problem, and apparently it's because the CF card is set to removable rather than fixed disk. Some cards, e.g. Sandisk, allow you to change this with a tool.

I am trying my own cards, but I have several and neither seem to work.

I have tried removing the RAM expansion to see if that interfered but it still didnt work.  I also tried running it from my hard drive and by booting the dist but still no luck :-(

Does prepcard come with the kit?

Thanks
Allan

Sorry to hear of your problem

Did you buy one of our tested cards with the adapter or are you using your own?

Please note that if you have a RAM expansion on an A1200 larger than 4MB it will block the PCMCIA port- stopping PCMCIA cards from working.  It may be worthwhile using the PrepCard utility to check that the PCMCIA card is connected and recognized by the A1200- don't use any of the functions of PrepCard- just use it to confirm successful connection.  Also don't worry if it PrepCard reports that the card is corrupt (this is normal message).

Also do you have the same results when booting from the ADAPCMCFL disk directly?

Here is a tutorial video:

When I run PrepCard with the adapter in and no CF card it says 'no card inserted' and N/A for everything else.  When I insert a CF card it then says device 'unknown'.  Is this ok?

No disk at all shows on the WB screen.  I have to go to a shell and type "CF0:" and then it says no disk inserted.

This sounds OK- I would imagine that the media cards are not Amiga compatible.  Do they appear as CF0:NDOS or CF0:???? on the Workbench screen?
