A big part of the problem here is not just look-and-feel but interface design. Take a look at the layout of some of these applications and compare them to equivalents that would appear on any other modern OS. There are simply too many buttons and text edit boxes jammed into one window, along with that putrid Topaz font. And why do Amiga applications always have their dialog buttons spread out over the full width of the window rather than side by side? Yuck!
Anyway, as others have commented, I'm sure this is a preview of the low-level functionality not the GUI.
