Didn't really seem that hard to use.  I don't recommend using Samba as windows isn't reliable not to mention doesn't support resume.  FTP is much more trust worthy  not to mention more tolerant of any errors that can occur.

Before I tell you how to setup your network I need to ask a few questions.  How much networking experience do you have?

Do you have the 2 computers hooked up to a router, switch, or crossover cable?

what OS is on the modern computer?

Well that's easy.  I use a program called WS-FTP the 95 version.  I use this because not only is it free if your not using it for business.  And the 95 version works on all OSes from 95-Vista.  And it doesn't halt on errors.  This means when it sends the ls -al  command and the FTP server sends back an error code it doesn't stop the program for continuing to communicate with the server.  After that just drag and drop what you want to send to the amiga in the blank window and wait for the status bar to go away multiple files are ok but if you want to send directories you need to compress them with lha first then send them.
