Could use some help. Thanks in advance.
« on: December 21, 2013, 04:32:19 AM »
Well, crap.  Buy a soldering iron and somehow you think you know a thing about electronics.   Well, I got the leaky battery replaced from my new (old) A2000 no problem.   Soldering job is A+.

However, my floppy drive stopped working.  Looking at the cable, I realized that one of the damn pins was still in it.  Long story short, I destroyed the cable getting the pin back out, and after shoving it back in the motherboard--it's too damn short.  Maybe it broke, I don't know.  It's not sticking out the other side, so that's all I can assume.

So now I need a long, copper pin, and a new floppy cable.  Any advice?  Thanks.

I think you need to STOP and verify something.
PIN #2 on the floppy connector on A2000 MB SHOULD BE missing, it's by design and sometimes they leave the short pin inside the floppy cable so you can't insert it backwards.

Oh wow.. you know you're right.  Good call.  I guess the short pin was inside the floppy cable connection to keep it notched.   Thanks!  I guess I just need a new cable now.  :D   Well, and also see why the floppy drive was shorting out.  But I've got extra drives and disks for that.

AmigaKit sells floppy cables, long, short, 1 header or 2, etc.  Good luck on your repair!

Hmm..  $24 shipping from AmigaKit.   It should be easier to find a cable than that!

They ship out of the UK, even if you click on their US portal, it still comes from overseas, unfortunately.  I've got an extra cable in a box around here somewhere, but as a thought check with MechWare, he's down in Texas, too, and probably has got some (email him if they're not listed on his website).

Yeah, good point.  I bought a flash drive setup from him.   I'll check back.  Thanks, guys.

I have just checked on our website and shipping for a dual Amiga floppy cable is actually $5.36 anywhere in the US. So maybe the O.P. has something else in their cart pushing the shipping costs up?

I stand corrected and my apologies to Amigakit--you're right. Somehow a Deneb USB was also in my cart. Those are even listed out of stock (of course).  If I can make one, I'll order it.  Again I apologize.   Wow it's been a hell of a week.  At least Christmas is here.
