A520 for the A2500??
« on: September 19, 2008, 02:26:19 AM »
Since getting a flicker fixer/scan doubler for the ole' 2500 is proving to be like pushing out a kidney stone--expensive and painful, I was looking at getting an A520 TV modulator (NTSC).  I realize we're talking about a TV versus a monitor, but how bad is the picture?   I mean, can you read text on it?

I need to find out if this beast (the CPU, not me :-)) even displays a picture, so I thought this might be a decent temporary solution until someone comes out with a decent, low-cost scandoubler/flicker fixer (if ever).

Thanks!

Chris

The 520 works fine for default desktop resolution (320*200). Many classic games use that same resolution and work well on a TV. Interlace mode (640*512) gets ugly though. You can reduce the strain on the eyes by adjusting screen colors, contrast and brightness when using the higher resolution but the image quality is weak.

I had kinda dropped the project, but maybe I should do a run on my cheap scan doublers (Based on the Roy Justus design) if some one else doesn't do one soon.

I contacted Roy a week or so ago, and he indicated that he was in the middle of a "resupply cycle," which could take months and he would contact me "when the time comes."  I've learned you have to have some patience, and I'm very grateful, however, I'd like to boot this thing up and have a look.

I really think a good deal of money could be made with an internal scandoubler solution if made with the right quality and quantity.   Of course, that's the trick, isn't it?

There is other way for you USA guys: transform the ye old A520 composite signal into a modern(ish) S-VHS out!

There is a guide on Aminet to do this (written by meh!:-D).

Forgive my ignorance, friend, I've been in the PC community for quite a while--What is Aminet and can you give me a link to the mod?

THANKS!!  :-D

Nice!  Will making it SVHS do anything for the quality, though?

I don't find the english guide anywhere... the brazilian one is the only one included in the zip file.

A search on Aminet didn't turn anything up.  Any ideas?
