There's a fuse inline on the A2000 that will probably need to be replaced!  Only model that has that danged fuse!

Been there.  Done that.

Not necessarily.  I had the exact same problem, mouse would only go left and right, but not up and down.  Blown fuse.  Seems like that fuse is on one of the axis lines.  Why?  I haven't the foggiest.

It sounds like the cable is bad.

that way I can use a good Logitech PS2 Optical Mouse.

Just one option.

If you really want the original mouse to work again then you will have to remove the original cable, buy a new cable (Probably a Joystick Extension or Something of the like) Cut off one end and solder it into your original mouse.
