WTB: A500 rev. 6A motherboard
« on: July 25, 2011, 02:03:56 PM »
Okay, I'm going to admit I'm an idiot.

I was upgrading my 6A motherboard by soldering in the RAM chips into the holes reserved for them and I discovered something after I had finished.

I soldered ALL 4 of the new RAM chips in upside-down!  @#$%&*((^%#$@@##$!!!!!

Tried to de-solder 1 chip with no joy.

So, does anyone have a 6A motherboard they'd be willing to part with for a reasonable amount?

Thanks in advance.

Curtis

I'll give it a shot.  Figured the RAM chips were toast anyway.

Really annoying any way you look at it.

Unfortunately, if you socket, the keyboard won't fit!

I almost went with sockets until I read about that little problem.

Well, I managed to get one chip out last night and it appears the motherboard is still good so far.

So, I'll put the request for another motherboard on hold for the moment.  At least until I get the other 3 chips out and the board cleaned up.

Almost had a problem develop, finding new chips!  Fortunately, I found a PC RAM board that has a couple of meg of chips on it.

Once I get what I need, looks like I'll have several chips extra, so I'll probably offer the extra chips here for anyone else looking to do the same upgrade.

Well, the first memory board I got in had 4256 chips.  Definitely the wrong ones!

Went back and found another auction and picked up enough chips to fix the 1 500.

Took FOREVER for those 4 tiny little chips to arrive, but they came in yesterday.

Positioned them into place and checked orientation about a gazillion times!  Yes, everything is aligned with the galactic core as it should be...

Soldered them in and hooked up power supply and monitor.  Turned on the power and said a very quick prayer.

It came up to the insert disk screen!   IT'S ALIVE!!!!

Now to put it all back together and finish the tweaking and peaking.

BTW, anyone have a flicker fixer they'd be willing to part with at a reasonable rate?  Needs to be NTSC.
