Sound Problems (A500+, 1084S)
« on: April 14, 2012, 08:42:16 AM »
Hello,

Yesterday I connected the sound cables between my A500+ and the 1084S monitor. Well sound does come out, but there is something missing. It is as if not everything is being played. I do not know how to explain this ... missing notes maybe??

Does anyone know what this could be? If coming from the A500+ or the 1084S monitor? The problem is I do not have a pare of speakers which match with the amiga. The only speakers I have are for PC.

You just need and RCa to 3.5 mm adapter like this.

I had a cable like that at home. I tried it out but still the same problem.

you are probably missing left or right channel. check the cables.

I tried different cables and still the same problem.

Could it be a speaker in the 1084S monitor? Can I connect PC speakers with the A500+ easilly? (for testing)...

Try unplugging one of the cables (either left or right) from the Amiga and see if:

When I remove cable from AUDIO-R sound only comes from left speaker. When I remove cable from AUDIO-L sound only comes from right speaker. I will try to find some PC speakers and see what comes out of it.

Connected PC speakers and the problem persisted. Therefore I must think the problem is with the A500+ :( does anyone know what it might be and if can be fixed?

I am afraid the acidity from the battery may still be doing damage, even though I had cleaned it. Here is a photo of my A500+ motherboard as is right now!

I will try to pull the motherboard out to see if there are any dry joints.

It sounds to me like you either have a short or a dry joint. Check the jacks with a digital multimeter. Try different cables. I am 99% positive there is nothing serious and you will be able to find and fix the problem easily.

I should have a multimeter so I'll try to see if I understand where the problem is.

If it keeps giving you hassles feel free to bring it over and i'll take a look at it ;)

Thanks :)

Ok, found what the problem was. After playing with the multi meter for a few minutes I realised that my PC PSU (converted to work for the A500+) had the -12V not connected correctly!!! Put in everything in place a the sound is back on.

From one side I am happy since all is working, however I don't know if turning the Amiga without the -12V for these last few days may have damaged something!! The truth is that apart the sound all seemed to be working fine!!
