I have found a PDF with the jumper settings of your SCS-IDE.

You can find it here:
http://www.redsretro.com/manuals/IDSC21_jumpers.pdf

Yes that is the card I bought, thank you for finding that. I read the document but not really understanding much (sorry). Do I need to follow the instructions for Flash ROM (2nd page), and does that mean that I need only one jumper settings (because in the first page is says that HD has 5 jumper settings and if I remember correctly on the card card I have 5 pins).

No problem.

Did you see my previous post with the jumper settings of  your SCSI-IDE?
Looks like you have to jumper switches 4-5-6 to OFF-ON-OFF

When i go home I'll give a proper look to the card and if need it I'll take photos :)
Thank you for your help :)

Hi again,

sorry for the delay but we had another power-cut here (just my luck). Anyways, I am at home now and I had a look at the card. I had another look at the manual but I still cannot understand it.

There are in all 22 pins labeled from 1 to 11. Now should I set the jumber as follows:

11__10__09__08__07__06__05__04__03__02__01 < --- (numbers)
-----------------------------------------------
0___0___0___0___0___1___0___1___0___0___0 <--- (pins)
0___0___0___0___0___1___0___1___0___0___0

Where in the above diagram two vertically aligned '1' represet a peace of plastic placed on the pins? or I understood everything baddly?

Hi,

Sorry for the long delay... yesterday was an early night because of the power cuts. However this morning I went strait checking the SCSI -> IDE card after I read your post.

There are nine pins (not 10 and neither 11, only 9). Since pin zero is never used I assume that I have pins from 1 to 9 (0 excluded). The reason I thought I had 11 pins was that on the card I have '1' printed at one side of the pin set and '11' at the end of the same pin set (sorry for any confusion made).

After a few jumper changes, I can confirm the following, if I for example put an incorrect jumper the light on the IDE -> CF card does not switch on, while it does switch on when I put the plastic (1) on pin 5 and 7. However still no workbench comes up.

Additionally, If I connect a normal drive then can I let the jumper settings as they are, that is I set pin 5 and 7 on? I am asking this because I am considering of doing what you suggested, that is to connect a normal IDE dirve to the SCSI -> IDE connector so that I can see if the problem is with the SCSI -> IDE card or else with the IDE -> CF card.

This is a diagram of how I have things set up at the moment:

09__08__07__06__05__04__03__02__01 < --- (numbers)
---------------------------------------
0___0___1___0___1___0___0___0___0 <--- (pins)
0___0___1___0___1___0___0___0___0

You are correct.
Do you have the CF-IDE adapter jumpered as master?

Yes

Maybe you should test it with a harddisk to see if that works.

That is my next move :) Does the size for the hard drive matter? What I am planning to di is connect the hard drive to SCSI -> IDE card, then load Workbench Install disk and change the SCSI_DEVICE_NAME to 'gvpscsi.device' and then turn on HDToolBox.

That should hypothetically work right?

If it does, maybe the CF card is the culprit.

I really hope so. I can not wait to get rid of it at this point!

You could try to remove jumper7. Maybe your CF-IDE doesn't support DMA.

I think I did try that this morning, however I read the paper that came with the CF->IDE card and it says it is supports DMA. However there is nothing wrong to try it again :)

If the CF-card is the problem, maybe you need the Sandisk utility to change the Card from removeable to fixed.
But first I suggest trying it with a harddisk.

I will try the hard disk as soon as I go home and if that works out then I'll try the utility.

If you really can't make the Ultra II work, I can sent you my Toshiba 128MB for the cost of shipping.

Thank you very much for the offer. Will let you know. I really appreciate all the help you have given me :) I would be totally lost without your help!
