Monitor 1084S-D1
« on: January 09, 2009, 03:48:54 PM »
Hi,

I had ordered a monitor 1084S-D1 from ebay last November. Yesterday the monitor arrived. Unfortunately it was not exactly how described on ebay!

The first thing I noticed of course is the damage to the outside plastic. One side of the back lid is fractured while the door covering the front-panel controls is broken off.

I think it will be next to impossible to fix the back lid, however I can try to fix the door covering the front-panel. Has anyone ever tried to do this and maybe have some suggestions?

Also I do not know if this is a problem or not; the cable which connects the 1084S-D1 to the A500+, the head which connects to the 1084S-D1 has some missing pins? Is this normal? When I connected it to my A500+ the monitor worked fine... it turn yellowish for a moment but then everything turned to normal after I re-started my Amiga. Anything to worry about?

Regards,

Hi,

The cable has six pins as well ... so I guess this is how it originally came out. Regarding the door covering the front controls I thought of maybe doing some custom fix.

It would be nice to get a 1084S-D1 which does not work to get its case - but I  do not know how much of these could be available and at what cost!

Also I wanted to ask something. The 'S' in 1084S-D1 means that it is stereo ... so does that mean I should hear sound coming out of my monitor?

I do not think I will buy anything from ebay for some time ... the last two items I received where not exactly as described. However the monitor does work, so I am not that sad :)

btw - Something else; when I switch the monitor it makes a loud whistling noise! I checked on amiga-hardware.com and here it says "A loud whistling noise indicates a bad flyback transformer (also known as an LOPT)". However I do not know what that means .. and if it can be fixed!

Thanks,

However I was just wondering what a bad flyback transformer means. The monitor works fine ... at least the picture is displayed correctly :)

I will definitely take it to the repairs show ... however how urgent is it? Could this problem break the whole monitor?

I bought the 1084S-D1 because of how it looks :)

Hi,

I know this may look like a stupid question; but in order to hear sound from my monitor then do I have to contact some cables from the monitor to the A500 Audio connectors (the red and black one on the back)?

If yes, then does any cable fit? Anyone knows how I can build a replacer?

Regards,
