UAE + Linux + USB Stick ???
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:45:19 PM »
Hi,

I do not know if something like is already exists or if someone had tried it out with any success ...

Is there some Linux distribution which can be stored on a USB stick and which has UAE installed on it so that when the USB stick is connected to a computer on start up the Linux distribution will start and will only do one thing; start UAE which will load some default workbench (set previously) ...

Does something like the above exist? if not then is it possible to make, or there are some limitations?

Thanks and Regards,
Sim085

Hi,

Thank you to every one for the replies and sorry for taking so long to send back. I am in the middle of my holidays and it is a nightmare to get an internet connection ...

Those two tutorials will be very helpfull .. I will read both and try to see what best suits what I want to achieve :) Thank you for the links.

Are you saying that your installation boots straight into workbench from the time you power up?

Yes that is what I want ... Have linux installed on a bottable USB stick so that when I switch my computer the linux will start and will immediatly load UAE with some default Workbench installed :) ... wouldn't that be nice ;)

Find your favorite "how to run UAE with linux" (for example XAmiga : How to -- A minimal Linux for E-UAE or AmiKit for the Linux Platform Guide v2) and stuff it on a bootable USB stick. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ should prove useful.

Done.

I had a quick look at bought tutorials.

The one explained on amiga.org need be compiled for the current hardware configuration. This does not seem to be the case for the tutorial explained on amiga.sk. ... is this right?

Also the one explained on amiga.sk seems to only support Workbench 3.5 or 3.9. This does not seem, to be the case for the tutorial explained on amiga.org ... again not sure if this is right or not!?

I had a look at amigasys website and it seems that it does what I want to achieve!

However I could not understand one thing; do you always need the CD? or after completing the setup you can directly from the USB?

Also there is no way to instal a Workbench which is pre-3.0?

Ok, I have downloaded the tutorial movie and the ISO file. I will try to have a look at this during the holidays :) However it would be really nice if I could install any version of Workbench ... rather then just 3.0 upto 3.9. Still do not know if that is possible.
