Which A1200 Board better? the new Typhoon or a Blizzard
« on: May 17, 2009, 07:53:05 AM »
Ok, What do you guy think is better a Bizzard 1230-IV board or a new Typhoon.
The reason I ask is last night, I won an incredible Auction. I got a NOS Blizzard board for $41. I also have the typhoon coming in so whitch is actually faster. The Blizzard has no MMU yet. I have to hunt down ram for it also.

Going by the numbers, I agree, but I have read several posts stateing that the Blizzard's actual performance was always slow. That's why I am asking.

But if you were someone else reading this thread, thinking about buying a card you should really think long and hard about getting an 060 card, or an 040 card you can upgrade to 060. You could probably do it for under $300.

$41 was a steal though...

Yeh, I couldn't believe that there was only 1 bid besides myself after a 6 day auction, The seller had a good feedback rating. The economy must defiantly be slumping if those are the prices that they are going for. I also picked up a "Power PC" board for the A500 for a buck.- not a ppc board, but a PC bridgeboard (NOS). After contacting him, I found out he is an Ex- Amiga dealer, and has tons of stuff he will be putting up on e-bay. I got an NTSC A600 from him for a song.

$41 Blizzard... $1 KCS PC card... A600 for some other obscenly cheap price...

Congratulations. You have officially made me quite jealous. :)

Sorry I can't contribute to the original topic. My A1200 is still unexpanded.

No problem, I also got a boxed 520 set for a buck. After our communications though, and all the "extra" stuff I am getting, He did get a good chunk of my paycheque, so in the end, he did make some money. The funny thing is that everytime I check my e-mail, he is adding more stuff to the box. :LOL

Well, I got the package in today, there will be more on the blog.
The accelerator is NOT the Blizzard (the box is). The Accelerator inside the box is a MicroBotics M1230 XA . To be sort of fair, the seller did try to warn me about it as he sent a link to the BBOH to the Microbotic card. I caulked it up to a wrong link at the time.
It also was $40- I knew for a Blizzard MIV it was too good to be true, so I am not even going to gripe or leave him bad feedback, because he more than made up for it with other stuff.
In my stash or disks, I believe I have the driver disk. It is marked MBX 1200 Utility software disk Microbotics. Does anyone have more info?
Also the BboH say this takes regular 72 pin sims. Is that EDO? I have tons of old ram kicking about, so finding a 128 Meg shouldn't be an issue, I just want to make sure its compatible.
