help me buy some add-ons for my C128 / C128DCR - please!

the dcr needs the dcr specific roms. you do not need to apply the drive rom to the internal drive but there is no reason not to. I have the uiec that goes into the casette port, but I never use it since I have an ultima 1541-ii cart which kicks ass. that cart is all you need (+ the jiffydos roms).

you dont need the rom overlay, thats unless you want to burn it yourself or use it in an emulator or rom cartridge.

I was looking at the 1541 Ultimate-II - but man, so expensive...
 
Real world, what will it do that the UIEC not?  I understand the 1541 emulation, but is there a large % of titles that will not run on the UIEC?

the u1541ii emulates the cpu + ram inside the drive, so its as close to 100% compat to a drive without having a drive. uiec just pretends and parses the commands. for what  it is, uiec is great, but its no substitution.

the u1541ii is also an REU, you can also load cartridge images on it, it can be two drives, etc. the cart is a lot more than just a drive emulator.,
