gutted
« on: June 06, 2008, 08:15:08 PM »
Hi,

After getting excited about re-finding my A1200 after 10 years - plugged her in - black screen.....the floppy drive clicks once then nothing.

So I opened her up....took out the HD - tried again. same thing...the TV is getting signal but it's black. I can press the caps lock button, light comes on then after 20 sec doesn't respond.

Then I took out the 040 acclerator card...this is the bad bit - the f**king battery has leaked - blue on the jumpers near the battery housing, and on some of the contacts below batter connection - hasn't eaten through any thing though....also some corrosion , slighly blue on timing crystal solders.

Is this un fixable?? - can't even get the battery out as it looks like its held in place by soldered metal.

Can't believe it...... well gutted now.

Took the card out and the amiga booted. well after playing with the keyboard connection a bit.

Can anyone help me or possibly fix this card? Its has paragon stamped on tghe side - i think it's an apollo accelerator. The fan comes on the CPU chip, I have no way of testing RAM on it...I don't really know what to do about it.

Any ideas?

Hi,
thanks for that - I have emailed him.

The jumpers on the board are covered in blue residue as is the small chip near the battery, and some of the trapdoor connector pins.

What should I use to clean this gunk off? would a dead battery stop the board working?

Also does anyone know what the jumper settings should be on this board. For some reason the jumper was closed over 060, scsi and ram even though it is an 040 and no scsi board.??

It does not boot with the card and only boots after 10 secs without 4 times out of 5.

Also when the HD is connected it refuses to boot. wondering if something else is going on here too.?
