ECS scandoubler causing issues!!!!
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:03:44 PM »
I just received the indivision ecs scan doubler today.  I have it hooked up but for some reason, my mouse movement is rather jerky.  It makes precision mouse control impossible.  I move the mouse diagonal down the screen and the pointer moves in sort of a "staircase" movement (right & down, right & down).  This is very, very annoying and if i don't get it fixed, up for sale it goes!!!  Does anybody have any advise on what problem my computer is experiencing or how to fix it?  Thanks.

It is the scan doubler.  When it is plugged in, the mouse is erratic.  When it is unplugged, everything returns to normal.  I tried 4 different Denise chips and problem remains.  By the way, I am not to happy with the way the chip plugs into the scan doubler.  It barely rests in the holes.  It is very wobbley and doesn't have any tension to hold it down.  I am very disappointed with this purchase so far.  Does anybody have any more advise to try?  Thanks.

No, I didn't unplug and re-plug the mouse while machine was on.  This problem was evident the very first time I fired the machine up after installation of the scandoubler.  In addition, only the mouse acts weird, everything else looks good.  My machine for some reason, doesn't like it.  There is one thing that may be of help.  I have a screen saver set on my machine to kick in after 10 minutes.  I notice that when the screen saver starts, it terminates seconds after.  Maybe this is interfearing with the scan doubler.  I am also running the utility called "anticlic".  Could that be a problem?  I am also running Magic Workbench.

Could it be the screen setting in the config?  Do I need to set those a particular way?

It's plugged into An Amiga 2000.  I have the basic Agnus chip.  I figure if I can't get it to work on this Amiga, I'll put in on my Amiga 3000 or 1000.

It has a nice socket, it just looks different.  There are actual small round holes that take each prong.  The prongs loosly set in each hole but there isn't enough tension to actually "grab it"  I have never in my life seen anything this weird.  I press down gently expecting to feel that nice "lock into place" feel, but it doesn't happen.  I tried 4 chips and the same problem happens.  But the picture is fine, only the mouse is erratic.  I will try your idea of holding the chip into place while powering up.  Thanks.

I tried holding the chip down firmly on bootup but no dice!!!  Same problem exicts.  Could it be on of my peripherals?  I have a GVP accelerator +SCSI (33mhz model) with 12mb on board.

I removed the Indivision and re-installed my A2320 and everything once again works perfectly.  It definately is the Indivision causing this problem.  Something is conflicting with it.  Here are my specs of my Amiga:

GVP Accelerator w scsi (12mb on board)
GVP HC+8 board (autoboot disabled: just using it for the onboard RAM)
2 floppy drives
scsi cd rom
Lyra keyboard adapter
Cocolino mouse adapter

That is pretty much it.

I hear ya Crom00.  I think I am done with any more major purchases for my Amiga.  I will use it from here on out but if it dies...it dies.  How much do Minimig's go for?  Also, how do you install Workbench on it?

Problem solved.  The damn Denise wasn't pushed in far enough.  That was the toughest fit I have ever seen.  All works fine now.  Thanks.

The picture quality is very nice MelbourneBen.  I'm using it on an LCD monitor and it is just as good is not better than the 2320.  They've also come down in price quite a bit since then.  Sorry I didn't answer you 2.5 years ago.

Next time, insert the Denise into ECS before installing on the motherboard.  You won't have to see your board flex so much.
