Janus Emulator Software
« on: May 20, 2010, 10:52:49 AM »
Hi, I've looked everywhere for this, but I can't find a copy of Janus or instructions on how to use it... I'm trying to use a bridgeboard on a WB 1.3 system, if anyone could send me some info on the subject that would be awesome, thanks!

Thanks for the file links. Sorry to ask another noob question, but how do I convert the DMS so it's readable on the Amiga side?

Thanks for the help, I got the files extracted :D but now I have another problem. I'm not sure how to run Janus, as installing it fails since the floppy I'm running WB 1.3 off of is full by default.. Does anyone know how to go about this?

If you don't have a hard drive, you should run it directly off the Janus disk.

Which application on the disk does this? I tried clicking on a few but they just made the screen flash orange. And I've read about copying janus.library to somewhere, do I need to do that?

Ok, I transfered janus.library to the expansion directory on my WB disk, and when I restarted afterwards the Sidecar made a cool little beeping noise and the disk drive lit up for a few seconds, which is the most I've gotten out of it so far. But still when I try to run applications in the PC directory from the Janus disk, it says Error while opening SYS:PC/file: ###, I don't get why it's trying to open it from there.. Can anyone tell me what to do here?

Woohoo! Managed to get into the PC view, thanks for all the help :D Of course now it says E000h Optional ROM bad Checksum = 78h, Disk Boot failure... I assume I'll need to find a replacement ROM somewhere :\

Try changing the BIOS settings and resaving them, that may be what the checksum error is about. As for the disk boot failure.. are you sure the disk in your A: drive is a bootable DOS disk?

What model is your bridgeboard? You mention a sidecar  - if it's an 8088-based board, you'll probably have a 360K 5.25" drive connected, so you'll need a DOS disk in the right format.

It's a 1060 sidecar :) it came with a disk in the drive labeled 'sidecar ms-dos 3.20', I assumed it's a boot disk, but I'm not even sure if it still works. I've looked over the manual and can't find anything about the BIOS, I tried changing some DIP switches to try the A0000 and D000 options but neither worked, all the other switches are in the right places. Could you tell me how to change the BIOS settings please? :)
Also, if you know, is it possible to use expanded memory cards, like an Intel aboveboard with the sidecar?
