The old cable wasn't really long enough because it came loose from the drive after installation. That being solved now I still can't get it to format disks. I do have 2 externals which format just fine but I would like to get this A1200 fully restored and back to it former glory. Try it without the case on.
I had a problem with a drive that refused to read certain disks (originals) when the case was on. This was because it was slightly too high (a couple of mm max!) and that was causing the drive to twist when I screwed the case back on.
