Personally, having linux install on a PS3 defies the whole point of a "play"station. I guess the majority of the people out there want a PS3 for just one reason ... play, and not to experiment with it!? However I am intrested to know why a linux may be needed on a play station 
or AmigaOS ... always open for new ideas
With Linux on the PS3 you can play all of your favorite emulators (nes, snes, mame). You can also rip blu-rays and play video formats not supported by XMB.
UAE on the PS3 is a bit of a disappointment though.
