Miggy enemies (&bright future)
« on: April 01, 2003, 01:41:43 PM »
Hi

Listening to A. Redhouse speech, it seems that Motorola, unlike IBM, are trying their BEST to slow, if not jeopardise dangerously, the PPC750 integration.

Seems that obtaining info from them is like playing SIMCITY starting with 10$. Try to figure out the specs of an as complicated device as a Level3 Cache on a CPU w/o any advice from the guys who made tha damn CPU...

Found me wondering : In the actual IT landscape, who really fears Amiga competition ?

What market will the "new Amiga technology" threaten ?

Because, you know, viewed from here, it seems that the Amiga has really CREATED a market, both in the field of Personal Computing (a concept that seem somehow abandonned), and Computer Imagery (in a way you cannot do w/ PCs).

Both are litterally BORN on the amiga, and are now the cash-providing market of a number of aggressive and powerful companies.

If the new Miggy is to hold the promises we all hope it will, we are looking at a MAJOR danger to many businesses. Really.

After all, the saying is : Just because you are not paranoid does not mean they are'nt watching  8-)

Admitedly, the new Amiga technology will be very much more complementary than competing, since it will use PC standard components.

Sorry 4 that last sentence. I *sense* it's not english, but dunno how to say it properly  ;-)

So maybe the trick would be here : Discretion. And careful information. See, we are here, it's already a proper market.

I'm talking about YOU and ME, and the numerous others that will BUY the damn machine. TV companies, even the NASA are waiting.

This is funny. I really though the world was all setup, with Microsoft and Apple in their lazy domination.

Now BBRV, (God I hate this guy) after much vaporware announcments, is actually SHIPPING a new machine.

Linux is really working, usable, and scares the HELL out of the IT business.

This is 1985 all over again ! :-D

sorry for this "my two cents" kind of post, a bit useless, but it made me feel *great* !!!

Yeah, this guys seems really clever. Everything makes sense, I really love the server-farm orientation, the "listen&learn" approach, and the IBM partnership !! IBM *is* a trust-worthy company, and really innovative, even if the always fail to show it.

Damn, were all the guys present who asked questions to Alan frenchies ? It seems so, as :
# they have this distinctive nasal-buzz that makes them impossible to understand and
# they seem to ask mostly irrelevant questions ;)

(I know, I *am* french, and only half-kidding;)

He lost me a bit towards the end, about China. I'm always frightened when I hear of China, dunno :)

I did heard that a big learning system has been setup w/ IBM, starting in Taipei. I wish I'm there... ;-)

Who is your God and why do you hate BBRV?

Well that was sort of an expression, I don't have any God, really (If one is reading this, please apply:)

I wouldlike to re-phrase that.

I don't really HATE them, fact is, I really dislike the way they are doing ANY communication work. Well. Apart from that, I really *admire* the fact that they ARE shipping a new machine w/ a new OS. No need to bury the Amiga system as a whole though.  I hate their mind games with other's money, and I like their interest in technology.
Mixed emotions, really.

That's the way I am. Somehow admirative and really disgusted.

Oh, and, ever heard about Pretory ?

Fascinating stuff. The P-M @ anandtech, that is...

And a very good rundown on the actual competitors !

I forgot about Transmeta... Nice of you to include AROS :)

Oh well, what a *big* bunch !

Heck, we might even see the birth of a new market as well, just like the A1000/500 started a whole new hype...

I thinks I'm way too tired to state on such things... 04.02 here... Call it a day 8-)

But neither the A1 nor Pegasos really offer tv companies or NASA anything out of the box.

I must say that NASA, would definitely be interested!!!

They could have a self contained computer, re-boots in seconds, almost RTOS, HIGHLY flexible (the original reason they  used it), and completely solid state (booting off of a CF card).

At the times around the demise of CBM, somewhere around 1993, I recall reading in a serious newspaper that some dept. of the NASA were eagerly waiting for a bunch of 4000s to be shipped to them, and they did not arrive, IIRC.

What the tech guy was saying, I recall vivdly, is that "This is the fastest re-booting computer ever. We NEED this feature in the project"

He also said "the money is there, what are those guys doing" ?
