I would heavily suggest you look at the Canon Powershot A60 (2MP) and A70 (3.2MP). You lucky gits in the US can get the latter very cheaply compared to the UK. For superb detailed reviews inc. sample pics have a look at Steve's Digicams. After reading reviews for about 3 weeks, I was all set to get an A60 this Monday but have held off for the A70 and am desperately trying to acquire/save any money I can, including considering what I MAY want to sell on e-bay.

These cams have optical zoom, macro mode, full manual control if you need it, take ordinary batteries, PLUS can take different lenses/filters, they are £129 and £209 respectively in the UK, and surprisingly the absolute cheapest for cameras I found by FAR (in the UK anyway) was Amazon!

Those are good features bu is 3.2MP enouph? Soon the common standard will be 6MP or something like that...

I would rather have a good lens, macro, full manual control, video with sound etc. etc. @ 2.0/3.2 than a fixed-focus, no macro, auto point-at-click at higher res. I see some "outstanding resolution" cameras, at budget->mid-range prices then on inspection what you get in the CCD you lose in features, and the resolution quoted is often interpolated. However, if you know of a cracking camera at about $200/£200 with 6MP I am all eyes (I'm sure red is too)  :-)

Going by reviews of the Canon A60, it was producing better quality pictures than competitors' 3.3MP offerings, so I assume the A70 will be similar to 4MP "budget" competitors? I am no expert so if you know of any spectacular offers, especially regarding new models that may not have been reviewed online, let us know.

I just noticed the A60 is now £99 at Amazon  :-o

However following on from the Kodak Easyshare's mentioned by red, I noticed the Kodak Easyshare DX6440, going in the UK for £189 (Pixmania), 4MP, 4x optical zoom, movies w/audio etc. etc. and some nice manual control.

Now I'm confused... :-) stuck between an A70 or the above.

@Calen
Thanks for those links, gonna go have a look.
