Stock A1200 means no HD?
If you DO have a HD you could install a JPEG datatype to view JPGs...
There are a couple of GIMP plugins to handle ILBM (IFF) although I don't know how well they work.
On the PC, I think OLD versions of Photshop used to support IFF and I think so does PaintShopPro, version 5 on which recently did the rounds on lots of PC cover disks.
