Sad day.
« on: August 01, 2004, 08:40:02 PM »
An old friend is dead, or nearly dead. I went to check on her today, just as every other day. I push her little power button and all the drives spin up (which is not always the case. About once a week I had to "encourage" a stuck drive to spin up by "jiggling").

Today she just lay there in a stupor, no display, just the whir of drives and fans.

Then I saw it. A faint flicker of life, a flicker of distress, a green pulsing flicker of the power LED. Bliiiiiiiink-blink-blink-blink-blink-blink-blink, bliiiiiiink-blink...

From the RKM:
Quote
exec.library/ColdReboot                               exec.library/ColdReboot

    NAME
        ColdReboot - reboot the Amiga (V36)

    SYNOPSIS
        ColdReboot()

        void ColdReboot(void);

    FUNCTION
        Reboot the machine.  All external memory and periperals will be
        RESET, and the machine will start its power up diagnostics.

        This function never returns.

    INPUT
        A chaotic pile of disoriented bits.

    RESULTS
        An altogether totally integrated living system.

Ah, not today -- not today old friend.

So, I'll take her apart, reseat all the chips and connectors again, maybe I'll see if she's talking on the serial. I've never seen the poor girl so ill and I'm fearing this may be the end. I've got an AmigaOne on order but looks like I won't get anything until later in the year. Maybe Ami4000 found out that I was looking at a younger model and just couldn't take it.

Sad day.
