OS4.1 and Sam Flex video issue
« on: May 07, 2009, 04:22:04 PM »
Having some graphic issues on my new sam.  These glitches seem to only happen when I view any directory window in Icon mode.  Doesnt matter what background I pick, it can even be a blank pattern, it will always show these lines.  Doesnt seem to affect any programs or the Workbench background.

When I change my Window background to anything else, it will remove the lines for a short time.  But they will eventually come back at some point during use.

Any ideas?

I would agree with you all, but I would think this would happen in other places if that was the issue.  None of those lines appear in anything else.  Browsing is fine, viewing images, and every other program doesnt have this issue.

I doubt its a temp issue, things are nice and cool.  And the case has a fan right over the video card.

No change.  The issue mainly seems to come up when I first boot up.  If I change/save any GUI prefs or WB Pattern the lines seem to go away until the next reboot.  The lines do come back during the day without a reboot, but I cant seem to find at what point the lines re-appear.

To further add to the mystery...

When I have both dimms installed the glitch happens.  If I have them alone in either slot, the glitch goes away.  I dont have another video card to test, but I suppose I'll contact Acube before I buy another card.

Mine is the 800 model.  I havent heard of anyone else having this problem so I'm betting its just an anomaly.  I really would like to see if I can get a hold of another video card, since its the only other thing I havent tried swapping.  Amigakit is looking into the problem.  If anyone wants to be super cool, they could send me a 9250 to try out.

Yeah, I got a response from Acube yesterday.

This is a known problem of OS4. The problem should go away with the next updates from Hyperion.

So I'm just running it without the second DIMM for now.

The problem is likely still present and causes random stability issues.

If indeed removing the 2nd DIMM makes the glitches go away it will again reinforce the scenario that this is indeed is a problem with the Flex HW, specifically memory setup when using two memory modules.

I really think this is the case.  Other than the video issue, I would have lockups mainly when browsing the web.  Screen would lock into a solid color and there would be a distortion patch over where the mouse pointer was.

Ever since I removed the second DIMM, I cant remember the last time it crashed on me.  Used it all day yesterday and didnt have to reboot once due to a lockup.

I'm sure it will get sorted out soon.  I'm not terribly upset about having to use the 512 for a short time.

Noticed some folks on AW.net were asking about the second picture.  Maybe I should have named the file different, but it was my intention to show that the glitch only shows up during Icon view of a folders contents and not during list view.
