A model where "one person defines how it works", is a closed source model.

I didn't know the Linux kernel was closed source ;)

It's been open source since day one. And Linus has been defining how it should work since
1994. This doesn't prevent lots of unofficial patches, forks,.. though as well as lots of official fixes, patches,.. That were contributed by how many devs ? A hundred ? Yet, only one person decides. This wouldn't have been possible if it had been closed source...

You may decide and stay opened... At least outside of the Amiga circle. I'm not sure this is possible here: most open source projects lack direction/guidance. And lots of people still deciding would rather see their software die rather than risking loosing control and.. Ownership.

It shouldn't be included in any AmigaOS replacement as it has never been a part of AmigaOS. If people want to download it they can, no one is stopping them.

You do not find it legitimate but seems like most developers do since it's used by lots of software still maintained today. In the end, it all comes to what is your target: are you making an OS for people to enjoy? Or are you making an OS for yourself... If you're targetting people you'd better make it easy for people to include the libs needed by most of the apps they are gonna use.. And put aside your own personal thoughts. As if Apple refused to include OpenGL because Tim did not like the lib and thought it wasn't legitimate to include it in Macos..

Olsen , Thomas,

I have to ask a stupid question here.

When you would such a possible buyout of AMIGA OS - with the existing free AROS.
Where are the advantages?

Is AROS so far from this?
Or would AROS have already some areas where its ahead - like a MUI clone etc?

What is AROS really missing today?

Seems like AROS doesn't run well on true (slow) 68k Amigas.

I don't know if it's far, but it doesn't run correctly. AROS on a real Amiga seems fine to run some (non-DOS) games but it seems to be it.

That's a difference.

Maybe these NDAs are time-limited (I wish they are) ?

Seeing what happened since 1999 with owners of the OS, I don't see a bounty happening either, or it would be insanely expensive and would come with unacceptable conditions anyway.

A bounty to bring AROS on par with AOS would be possible though, and free of any evil conditions.
