this is really stupid...was just playing around after succesfully installing my idefix express....

went to the presets...for the piktogramms for the drives....and made them all invisible....don't ask me why i don't know...

so now i'm left with only the workench thing on top and can'get into any of the drives or programms....

which command can i use in the workbench command box...to get into any of the drives???????

this is really dumb

CD changes to a directory of your choice

DIR lists the files in the directory

System: is normally your boot drive, i.e. DH0: IDH0: Workbench: etc

yeah that is my boot drive...System it's called ....do i type it in with a new command window opened?

A daft question/statement - have you got a command window open already?

And yes an Amiga normally needs a comand window open for you to type in instructions.

The conventional shorthand for the boot device, whatever it may be, hard disk, floppy, whatever, is SYS:

So to get to presets you need to type in the following

Sys:Prefs/Presets

and that should get you in the right place

Ok  ..so a different window...will try where i can get...typed it in as it should be but nothing really opens up----guess in this shell thing its all text based or do folders really gonna open up???

Can't boot from a disk drive cause got a 3.5 cd which was installed on the A1200 when i got it...and only installed the idefix to get a cd rom working.can i connect the cd rom directly to the ide port to boot up?then i could set jumpers to the sys boot drive to slave and fix it?

Yes it's text based. Typing DIR should showup the directories within.

P.S. Have you tried uninstalling IDEFix Express and see if that gets you back on the right track  :rtfm:

i'm in there system:prefs/env-archive.....what can i type in now to maybe reset the preferences?and i'still on that bootig from that sys drive

You could try the following

rename sys to oldsys

then do a cold reboot and see how that goes.

It will destroy you preference settings though

Thanks davideo..how can i change them to old prefs ??

I don't think you can.

You'll have to do it the hard way - if your hard drives show up  :-o

Open your boot drive and go into preference and reset each to your own choice  :rtfm:
