Without 3.1Roms and OS3.9 you could be limited on the size of your hard drive

I've got a 40GB in my 4000D and had a lot of trouble setting it up until I stuck 3.1Roms in it and installed OS3.9   :-)

You could have to install SFS file system etc to get yours running to its full capacity  :rtfm:

Have a look on other threads for Hard drives bigger than 4GB

There's a good thread on EAB about hard drives greater than 4GB.

Have a look here http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=32256

I'll take a look in the morning before work :)  Its just gone midnight here in the UK, so I'm gonna get some rest for work in the morning!! :)

Here's the drive I'm looking at:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330226061443&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014

Many thanks again :)

I'm in the UK too

I bought a PC Laptop drive hoping to fit it in a 1200 but the connections aren't the same. The 1200 IDE connector lead I had wouldn't fit it  :-?

You'd better make sure before you buy it

You can use a bigger drive in your 1200 but without applying the required patches you may only be able to see the first 8GB of it.

If your in the UK too, we are both mad!!  I've gotta get up for 6:30am!!

I aint worried, I dont really use it that much so £14 isnt gonna break the bank for me :)

I've no way of finding out if it fits or not have I? I thought all 2.5" IDE drives where the same?  They must had a standard surely...

I'll give it a go :)  Its not gonna matter to much :)  Most importantly, I'll check the drive thats already in there first!!

Are there any hard drive programs that I can use to find out whether or not there is a problem?

I get an extra hour in bed compared to you - so that means I can stop up an hour later  ;-)

You need to find out what you've got in there already and if you're not bothered about what's on the drive at the minute - try and re-install it and see if that helps.

I also thought that all IDE drives where the same. But the one I got was from a laptop and the connector on the drive was smaller than the ribbon I had. So I assume all laptop harddrives are the same.

I'm on the hunt for my Workbench 3.1 disks at the moment!! :)  I think on my Amiga OS 3.5 there is a copy of Workbench 3.1 anyways, but as I'm formatting the lot anyways, I'll make a note of whats what and go from there :)

I can connect it to any of the 3 PC's in the house so I'm hoping it'll connect to something after its formatted!!

I'll note the drive model etc down and see if I can find another, if not, the 20Gb one from Ebay should do the trick :)  I know my Amiga doesnt use the same as my server does so there's no need to have 8 hard drives in that!!

I've typed this once and my PC threw it away

Why not stick ClassicWB on it?

It comes with loads of extras already installed  :-)

Have a look here http://classicwb.abime.net/

I've never heard of ClassicWB so that's why I've not thought about installing it!!

Pc's have that tendency to throw things away...  At the moment I've benchmarking mine and trying to break a few speed records ;)  Its fine when it works, but god its a nightmare when it doesnt :(  But then what do you expect??  Its a PC with MS on it!!

I'm downloading them all just to make sure I got one I think suits me! :)

My buggers got a virus I can't get rid off - bluddy things :getmad:

I keep attacking my own PC and trying to send stuff off to a web address :madashell: Thank God in one way for Norton.

It's got until the weekend and then I'm going to rebuild it.

Amigas are a lot easier - ClassicWBLite works great on a non expanded Amiga.

What you got shoved in yours?

I've got a good few Amigas.

I'm busy sorting out a recent acquisition from an Fleabayer!!!!

A4000D that was sold as perfect and took me a while to find out the sound is stuffed from leaking caps and battery.

I've nearly got it sorted. Just got to replace the caps now
