Will the Topaz font still be needed?

not exactly, however, there are still a lot of programs that want to open a size 8 'topaz.font' - they wont be happy if one doesnt exist - and some could crash the machine

there is nothing wrong with having one extra bitmap font on your hard drive! you dont have to use it

Don´t you know that a Real Amiga should not use higher screens than 640x256? :-)
topaz 8 is part of the amigalook, i like it on low res screens.
