i cant honestly believe you would send that much to open source people to do what is ment to be their hobby...

use that $50(or perhaps more) to BUY an OS

i dont care if people program as a hobby - thats what i do my self

If people want to support someone else's hobby because they think they'll benifit from it then that's thier choice.

i understand that, and its a waste of money IMO since the work is going to get done wether the money is sent or not, is it not??
