AmigaOS4.1 announced for "Classics"!
« on: October 24, 2010, 08:15:04 AM »
Hi all,

reporting from Amiwest 2010, I'm not sure if anybody has reported this already, but... since I can't find any information about it, I'm happy to tell you that Ben Hermans announced the coming release (before the end of this year) of AmigaOS4.1 for "classic" Amigas equipped with PPC accelerator boards.

He didn't mention if it's gonna be a free update or not, he also didn't mention if it's gonna include of all the features already present in the current AmigaOS4.1 version for the "nextgen" PPC machines.

This is great news!

Cheers,

I personally would like to see support for the BlizzardPPC scsi controller which was one of the weakest points (if not the weakest) 'cause due to this the IDE controller made the CPU to waste cycles for disk access/transfers on the Amiga1200...

We'll see. I think this is a good move for hyperion, I don't think compiling OS4.1 for the classics would have needed too much effort anyway, they will get extra cash to continue improving the OS and so all hardware platforms and users (sam, peg, a1, etc) will benefit from this.

Cheers,
