This sounds like a good idea, since I can't for the life of me find decent instructions for what to buy or how to mix to make "retrobrite", I might give this a try.  Thanks!!  :)

I've never had to follow the retrobrite recipe, simply buying 2 bottles of this stuff: http://www.sallybeauty.com/40-Volume-Developer/SLNCAR67,default,pd.html?cm_vc=SEARCH (liquid, not creme) and mixing it all 50/50 with water was all I needed. Submerging any item I wanted to lighten in the mixture (and making sure it stayed submerged, important) and leaving the whole thing in the sun for a few hours would pretty much do it.

Might be tough to do something like a monitor this way, though..

I have a hard time getting what's needed for retrobright where I live, could anyone order a few bottles of that stuff and ship to me for some money?

That may be illegal, as I believe it's considered a hazardous material.  Hard to believe there isn't a beauty supply store in Sweden that would sell it, though.
