I did one once a couple of years ago, I had to do the same thing and raise the keyboard to make room.  Ultimately, I disassembled it because the motherboard I had was too underpowered, VIA EPIA 800MHz, and used the C64 case in a different project.  Mine didn't look nearly as solid as yours internally.

It's in pieces right now, I haven't been inspired to get it back together.  It's a little too heavy to be convenient.
