That would be different -- a top-loading floppy drive.  Has it ever been done?  Would it pop out correctly given the gravitational force?

No such floppy in mine, but it has been done.  Popping out was no problem, generally the spring is more than strong enough to move the floppy up, but the head motors didn't like having to work against gravity very much apparently if the drive failure rate on these machines is any indication. It's quite a task to find one of these with a working floppy:

Thinking about maybe painting the vertical vents black for a more conventional 4000T look..

Maybe not, who knows.

Good Idea, I like it but it sticks out a little too far, you need to figure out a way to recess it just a bit more.

That's my plan, just need to trim about 0.5" off all the way around.

Is the door hinged, if so how did you attach it?

Not yet, but it will be.  I'll be mounting it with a smoothed machine screw on top (into the original hole) and will most likely epoxy a bit of metal with another smoothed out machine screw for the bottom hole.

that was just ugly... design wise it dont fit at all it looks like big thing just smackered on... sorry if i offended you but i am honest.

No offense taken, I was honestly expecting more negative criticism than just this one.

Personally, the first thing I do with cases using a door (I have had a few) is to rip the door away.

It's an option if the case in question looks good without a door.  I feel the 4000T case doesn't look right without one.

About the door blocking things, is there any reasonable way to get the DVD drive to push the door open?

I bet I could get that to work if I didn't bother with a latch.  Bumper on the left side of the CD drawer to get the best leverage and some smooth hinges would probably do it.
