You don't necessarily need to be able to see the screen to switch to NTSC mode.
If you've got KS3.1, power up your system while holding down the two mouse buttons, wait a bit for the early startup menu to be displayed (you won't see it obviously,) and then press the space bar. That should put the early startup menu into NTSC mode. At that point you can tell the system to boot in NTSC mode.
Not really a fun workaround to do often, but it should work.
