Tantalums are way more fun. Noisy molten explosive failures instead of sneaky, slow and quiet.

I've only had it happen with vintage systems that had been sitting powered off for some time (years.) They do make quite a lightshow and can turn into projectiles.

As the tantalums cause a short, I'd bet they're more likely to break something besides a trace on the board.
