Another thing to consider is that while WHDLoad does work on 68000 machines like the 500 and 600, I've run into a couple of installs that use tools that don't work on less than an '020 (can't recall which at the moment, though) and the occasional game that just won't work (while it did on the 1200.)  That, and with 1.5mb of RAM the Minimig is not ideal for multi-floppy games, and you'll also miss out on the few good AGA games that are around.

If you intended to spend that kind of money, a 1200 wouldn't be out of reach and would do way more for you.

As for CompactFlash, I'm using 4gb CF cards on one of my 1200s and in my 500 and they work very well.

Indivision is currently out for the A1200 and A4000 which would solve the monitor problem but of course add cost.  It's also supposed to be released for the 500/600/2000 soon, but there really isn't a cheap way around the monitor problem except for good old composite.

The 600 is a nice machine, but it's really only a few inches smaller than a 1200 and ridiculously hard to find upgrades for.

Whew, £300?  I've got a nice 3000 with 8mb of RAM you could have for that.

edit: actually, make that 10mb.  Forgot about the chipram.

3000s work fine on LCDs in my experience.  edit: though I admit I haven't done much in 50hz modes on an LCD..

Minimig seems like a decent solution (price notwithstanding) if you're only using actual disk images of games that run on a standard 500.  I think WHDLoad would add just enough trouble to make it disappointing, at least those are the kind of results I've seen WHDloading on 68000 machines.

This 3000 is pretty much straight from the factory, still with the 2.0 ROMs.

Biggest issue though would probably be that I'm in the US and you'd need a voltage converter to use it.

Indivision and HighGFX 1024x768 in combination with 060 is a great setup, although chip-mem runs a bit low it is very usable and nice experience, perfect for 8 color MWB workbench.

I'm pushing mine to the limit I guess, 32 color 1024x768 with FBlit running to cushion the hit on chipmem.  I generally have over 1MB chip free, and web browsing with iBrowse is pretty usable.  I've tried 256 color in the past (without FBlit) and it was pretty slow.
