I haven't installed BB3 on any system, but seeing as it's unofficial, there could be plenty of patches in there which are suspect (i.e. even more than BB2). Try disabling any ROM modules added, see if that helps. It sounds like a patch to speed up chip memory accesses - perhaps it's clashing with similar patches applied elsewhere, e.g. MCP?
