Cannon Fodder's an excellent candidate - could easily me made to work with a 3D world to suit the mass public who wouldn't accept anything that wasn't 3D, and with similar camera angles and mot too many flashy extras, the gameplay could be kept pretty similar, i.e. great!

Also, Zeewolf could be a great game given an up-to-date 3D engine.

As for remakes that already made it, I loved Populous: The Beginning - still play it now from time to time. Also, Syndicate Wars looked pretty good but never got to play it...

What about Worms? (I'm joking, I'm joking...)
