This will be at least twice the cost of a SAM.  Its a complete ssytem tehy will be selling.  I reckon easy Mac prices

If its priced in the same region as a Powermac then its gonna have its work cut out to succeed in the high end market. Why would anyone, who is in that market segment gonna fork out for an x1000 when they can get a a high end mac with a huge back catalogue of industry standard apps - Photoshop, Quark etc etc? Even if OS4 is reworked to harness the full power of the hardware, where are the other high end apps that high end users need/expect to justify the expense?

We DEFINITELY need a 100% working CSS capable Flash supporting browser.  Otherwise it'll be of no use to most people.  Especially the way things are set to change in the next few years.  The OS is becoming more irrelevant, and everything will eventually be done through a browser.

P.S. OpenOffice would be nice as well - but that'll never happen!!

If its going to appeal to non-Amiga users, then it'll need a browser people are familiar with from outside of the Amiga, Aros, MOS communities. Puts the pressure on a fully functioning Firefox port. It also needs to draw the developer community in from outside if its going to have a fighting chance to succeed.

Only real volume C= made money on was the A500/A600/A1200 because they were not asking an arm and a leg like they were for the big box Amigas.  You have to be able to sell it to the masses else your limiting yourself to OS4 users who needs to replace their A1s, Pegs, or SAM440s.

Not necessarily. You could build a high end machine targeted at a very specific audience provided it has top-notch apps. Or alternatively has what Apple has done very successfully have cult status. Such a business model would be low volume high margin. The Amiga has cult status but it’s lacking high end apps.
