IDE Problems & possibly bad CPU
« on: December 06, 2007, 02:36:16 PM »
I recently got an Amiga 4000 with the toaster. It was all working ok but then froze up. When I rebooted it it would not reboot and I noticed the hard drives were not both coming on. When I unplugged the ide cable they would come on. Could this be an onboard IDE problem? I am not even getting the boot screen with the floppy, just the dark screen with no color. I do know a black screen indicates a bad CPU. Could this be the cpu? Also I noticed that some of the prongs on the drives were loose and I had to push them back in. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

I think I am going to try and solder the prongs back to the drive. The drive does come on but I guess one step at time. I just hate to have to re-install everything. I do have another drive but this system has the flyer and I dont have all the software only the toster disk. I dont even think I have WB. We had an Amiga where I used to work but we just used the toster. I learned alot from the emulators but thats about the extent of my Amiga knowledge. This will be my fist at a real hands on Amiga besides using the toaster. Hope I can remember all the things I did know. Its been 6 or 7 years since I have done anything on one of these
